The Director of Equity for Children and Equidad para la Infancia, Alberto Minujin, received the Bicentennial Medal from the Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, on November 9, 2010 in the Salon Dorado de la Cultura in Buenos Aires.

Minujin_award 2Along with Professor Minujin, other Bicentennial Medal winners included Nobel Prizewinning author Adolfo Perez Esquivel, and Julio Cesar Strassera, former judge and prosecutor of leaders of Argentina’s 1976 military coup.  Professor Minujin was awarded the Medal for his lifetime work in defense of human rights.

 

The Argentinean Bicentennial Medal Awards are part of the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the May revolution of 1810.  The Awards recognize 200 individuals and institutions whose accomplishments, lifetime achievements and contributions to society are above distinction.  Nominations from a variety of educational and governmental institutions, from colleagues and institutions around the worldgenerated the list of individuals from among which the 200 were chosen.  Minujin’s award recognizes his work in the areas of social policy, child rights and child poverty.  While bestowed on Alberto Minujin, this honor is an achievement for the entire Equity for Children and Equidad para la Infancia team.  As such, we wish to share the news of this Bicentennial Medal with all of you, our supporters.

Minujin_award 1Bicentennial Medal Recipient Alberto Minujin is the author of numerous books and articles, including The Middle Class, Seduced and Abandoned; The New Poor; Poverty and Children: Policies to Break the Vicious Cycle; and Social Protection Initiatives for Children, Women and Families. He is the director of Equity for Children and Equidad para la Infancia América Latina, and a professor at the Graduate Program in International Affairs at the New School University in New York.
