Call for Papers: 5th International Conference on Children and Youth in MENA Cities

Arab Urban Development Institute / Child Protection Initiative (MENA / CPI) is organizing an international conference with the collaboration of Aleppo Municipality to address issues related to vulnerable and marginalized children and youth specially in education and employment, June 2009 in Aleppo, Syria.
The conference is intended to discuss issues facing vulnerable and marginalized children and youth, mainly in the fields of education, training, skill development and employment at the local (municipality) levels of cities in the MENA region. The objectives of the conference are as follows: (a) highlighting the problems facing youth regarding their training, employment and expanding their economic prospects in urban areas, (b) the role of local authorities and municipalities in addressing youth employment and employability, (c) highlighting the priorities for the education of children, specially disadvantaged and
vulnerable children, (d) sharing of experiences, lessons learned and good practices regarding policies & programs of youth employment.
The themes of Aleppo conference cover the following:
   1. Youth employment and employability issues (employment programs, vocational training, skill development etc.)
   2. The role of municipalities and local authorities in developing / implementing employment programs+ projects for youth 
   3. Reintegrating school drop-out into formal and informal education.
   4. Presenting successful regional and international experiences and programs in youth employment and skill development.
