Dear Friends,
Equity for Children is proud to announce the launch of its new affiliate site,
Equidade para a Infância. This new site emphasizes aspects of child rights and social policy within the context of Latin America. It also contributes to and advances the work of both the site in English, Equity for Children, and the site in Spanish, Equidad para la Infancia. All three are closely related and advance the policy agenda for children’s rights around the world.
This year, many Latin American countries are celebrating the bicentennial of their independence. As growing economies and countries that are moving rapidly toward a higher level of development and quality of life, these countries and the entire international community must redouble efforts on fulfilling child and adolescent rights. Despite many successes, severe challenges persist, including a high incidence of child labor and child poverty.
Equidade para a Infância highlights discussion and debate surrounding the challenges and issues facing children and adolescents in Latin America. The site emphasizes Brazil, which is the largest and most populous country in the region. We hope to engage students, researchers, practitioners, experts and other stakeholders in these discussions, and we want to encourage more individuals to actively work for the betterment of children’s lives all around the world.
I hope
