Dear Friends,

 

 

I am excited to update you about Equity for Children and its latest developments.

 

·       Equity for Children will host the Young Lives Presentation and Seminar with the City University of New York  (CUNY) and Rutgers University on February 7-8, 2012.  The event will present the Young Lives team’s research conducted at Oxford University over15 years about 12,000 children from Ethiopia, India, Peru and Vietnam.  

 

·       Equity for Children and UNICEF will co-sponsor a panel discussion on the Status of the World’s Children initiative on March 7, 2012.  Stay tuned for updates on www.equityforchildren.org . 

 

·       This month at www.equityforchildren.org , join us as we highlight:

 

o   Inequality and Social Justice Roundtable Consultation
A report from the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) synthesizes a high-level Consultation convened by IDS and the UN Millennium Achievement Fund.  Leaders from the United Nations, NGOs, research institutions and governments came together on September 9, 2011 to discuss global inequalities. The Consultation concluded that the reduction of inequalities should be an integral, elevated and central part of development agendas.

o   Improving the Odds for Adolescents

Written by Susan Wile Schwarz and Yumiko Aratani of the National Center for Children in Poverty (NCCP), this article looks at how well the United States meets the health and development needs of adolescents and, particularly, of disadvantaged youth
