Equity for Children: Linking Education and Children's Services |

This article explores the important linkage between children's education and the provision of social services. The author demonstrates that education equity needs to be reconceptualized and merged with both the conditions of children and a broader concept of children's services than schooling. Differences in spending on children's programs and services are rarely analyzed, however; even though they are crucial determinants of child outcomes. National goals such as readiness to learn provide a stimulus for this broader definition of children 'finance and equity. This article provides an entrance to discuss an expanded definition of educational equity that includes out-of-school variables and services. |
