This book highlights the “photovoice” technique, a method that asks subjects to photograph what they feel represents their world. This type of enlightening visual research reveals the everyday realities of poverty through the eyes of those most affected by it. Intended for teachers, psychologists, anthropologists, and social and community workers, this resource offers insight into how communities are able to cope with the challenges of poverty and the impact of HIV and AIDS. Emphasizing the power and vital presence of hope, the photographs show how the pupils rise above their circumstances against the odds.
The book raises the importance of involving children and youth to address their needs and own wellbeing. Furthermore, children's representations of their own world offers crucial insights into their lives and needs.
