This short documentary, Scars of Exploitation Bleed (RED) focuses on the paradoxical link between global consumption, production, and charity. With a focus on the (RED) Campaign, the film questions the benefit of “charity” when it is at the expense of exploited workers. In doing so, it signals the continued and often invisible labor by women and children, their lack of rights, and how their plight has been increasingly blurred.
The relationship between consumption, production, and charity renders the imagination, creating a world where mass consumption helps those in need with a "guilt free" purchase, when really this purchase prolongs an ongoing problematic situation with the unseen labor force left suffering.
The film was written, directed and produced by Rachel Elin as part of her coursework for the MA in International Affairs program at the New School.
