Student Volunteers

Student Volunteers are an instrumental part of Equity’s successes. Since its founding, volunteers and work study students have organized events, video interviews, photography, site postings, research and countless other tasks for which we are most thankful. Each year nearly 20 students are involved. Current and recent student volunteers include:

Linda Cadavid ’13
Linda is currently pursuing her MA in International Affairs from The New School for Public Engagement. Linda has a MA degree in Bilingual Speech and Language Pathologist from Herbert Lehman College in New York. She has extensive background in Early Childhood Development and adolescents as she has worked as a bilingual speech and language pathologist for over 10 years. Linda did her International Field Program with The New School in Guatemala in 2009 where she worked with Mayan artisan women assisting them to design a sustainable business model. She completed a six-month internship at the Early Childhood Development Unit at UNICEF in 2011 and coordinated the Global Masters Training of ECD in Emergency, 2011.

Keyona Forbes ’12
Keyona recently received her MA in International Affairs from The New School for Public Engagement. She received a BA in International Affairs from Agnes Scott College. While studying abroad in India, Keyona conducted research on special education and integration. She continued her interest in children’s disability rights as an intern at Rehabilitation International. Keyona is a member of the World Organization for Early Childhood Education and a youth representative for the Working Group on Education at UNICEF.

Beth Hill ’14
Beth Hill received her MA in International Education Development from Columbia University’s Teachers College and is currently studying for a MS in International Affairs with a focus on child labor, at The New School for Public Engagement. Beth’s interest in the issues surrounding working children grew from her experiences living and working in Vietnam, from 1996-2000, and traveling throughout Southeast Asia during that time. From 1992-1995 she worked with UNICEF as a documentation officer within the Private Sector Fundraising Division. Beth holds a permanent teaching certificate, Art K-12, from New York State and a certificate in teaching English as a foreign language from Cambridge University.

Youngwon Kim ’12
Young Won recently received her MA in International Affairs from The New School for Public Engagement. She received her BA in Spanish from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, South Korea. Young Won has previously worked as a journalist featuring migration and cultural policy in Seoul, Korea. She has worked in child education as a program coordinator and has worked with Thomas Jefferson Musical Theatre Company (Mexico) on youth development through the arts. She is currently a research assistant on the educational research project College Ready Communities at the Center for NYC Affairs, The New School.

Rachele Morgante ’11
Rachele Morgante obtained a MA in International Affairs from The New School for Public Engagement. She received her BA in International Studies at the University of San Francisco. Her areas of interests are international health, education and community development in the Caribbean and Latin America. These interests stem from the research completed in Colombia, working with children affected by HIV/AIDS and field experience acquired in the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

Katherine Radke ’13
Katherine Radke is currently pursuing her MA in International Affairs at The New School for Public Engagement. Her areas of interest include adolescence, gender, and health. Prior to beginning her studies, she worked for Gender and Development for Cambodia, a NGO located in Phnom Penh. She is currently an intern with The Huairou Commission working primarily with their AIDS Campaign.

Dennis Rainaldi ’11
Dennis Rainaldi obtained a MA in International Affairs from The New School of Public Engagement. He has volunteered as a photographer for Equity for Children, most recently including our March 2012 event with UNICEF on "Children in an Urban World." Thus far in 2012, Dennis has sold pictures to National Geographic, Time Inc. Magazine, Nike and others. Later this year, Dennis will be traveling to Kenya, Tanzania, and Haiti to take photographs. In Haiti, he will be documenting the orphanages throughout the devastated area's and the international efforts to provide aid to the children there.
