UNICEF Report: Progress for Children: Achieving the MDG's with Equity

In 2000, world leaders adopted the UN Millennium Declaration, committing their nations to make the world a more equitable place and setting out a series of time-bound targets that have become known as the Millennium Development Goals, or MDGs. Every year, UNICEF’s flagship ‘Progress for Children’ report monitors progress towards these targets.

This year, ‘Progress for Children: Achieving the MDGs with Equity’ reveals that, in the push to meet the development goals by their 2015 target date, the very poor are falling further and further behind.

‘Achieving the MDGs with Equity’ is the focus of this ninth edition of Progress for Children, UNICEF’s report card series that monitors progress towards the MDGs. This data compendium presents a clear picture of disparities in children’s survival, development and protection among the world’s developing regions and within countries.

While gaps remain in the data, this report provides compelling evidence to support a stronger focus on equity for children in the push to achieve the MDGs and beyond.
